Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 at Long Beach in California. DuVernay discovered her love for the arts from the aunt Denise. The aunt was on in the evening shifts as a nursing assistant to ensure she could follow her passion for art literature and theater during the day. DuVernay was introduced to the 1961 movie West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay learnt by doing that art is a great instrument to engage in political activism. Her mother was also a an awareness of social issues and showed DuVernay how to convey messages through the medium of art. DuVernay was a summer resident of Lowndes County Alabama, where her father was born and was raised. The father of DuVernay's remembered watching the historic Civil Rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, in neighboring Selma Alabama. DuVernay was inspired by her summers in Selma and decided to make the documentary of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay obtained her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. Upon graduation, DuVernay studied in the University of California Los Angeles where she earned degrees in English and African American study. DuVernay started broadcasting journalism when she was just a student. Her first job was as an intern with CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being asked examine the garbage inside the house of one of jury. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied in journalism, so she made the decision to go into the publicity industry. DuVernay was hired right from college to be an assistant publicist in a small studio. In 1999, she launched her own company of public relations dubbed The DuVernay Agency. The agency was the first to launch a variety of lifestyle and promotion networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
